Residential Care Facilities
Residential care facilities provide a level of care for those not needing
extensive skilled nursing care but who require some nursing
care services which include personal care services, medication
assistance, dressing changes and special diets. Residential
care facilities are licensed by the state of Idaho.
Assisted Living
Assisted living is designed for individuals not needing extensive
skilled nursing care, who can function relatively independently
with some personal care services. Many assisted living residences
include private cooking, bathing and toilet facilities;
lockable doors; and single occupancy. Services in assisted
living residences are provided as requested or needed by
the resident. They may include supervision, limited nursing
care, personal care, homemaker services, and therapies.
Many assisted living residences are licensed as residential care facilities, others are not.
Home Health Care
Home health care includes the provision of routine nursing assistance
in the home. An example would be a nurse or nurse aide visiting
the home on a regular basis to assist an older person, to
check blood pressure, assist in bathing, or to administer
prescribed medication. Other specialists including occupational
and physical therapists provide services in your home. Some
services may be reimbursable by Medicare or Medicaid. Home
health care can be delivered 24 hours if necessary.
Adult Foster Care Facilities
Adult foster care facilities are small board-and-care homes or
group homes that provide housing, meals, personal care,
and some nursing care to no more than two adults. They are
generally converted private residences, and are licensed
by the state of Idaho.
Adult Day Care
These programs generally have minimal medical and social supervision
for the older person who has help at home during the evening,
but whose family or spouse is employed or away during the day.
Care Facilities for People with Mental Retardation or Developmental Disabilities
In addition to the services available in licensed nursing facilities,
the Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded
(ICF/MR) provides specialized programming and training for
persons with mental retardation or developmental disabilities.
These facilities include Qualified Mental Retardation Professionals
(QMRPs) on their staffs, as well as other professionals
skilled in providing for the special needs of the facility residents.
ICF/MR care is most often funded through the Medicaid program.
